About the Role

We are seeking a reliable, proactive and practical School Caretaker / Site Manager to join a busy school in Heald Green and support the smooth and effective day-to-day operation of the site.

This is an important role within the school, responsible for helping to maintain a safe, secure, clean and welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors.

The successful candidate will be practical and well organised, with the ability to work independently and use their own initiative. You will take pride in maintaining high standards across the school premises and ensuring the site remains safe, secure and fully operational at all times.

Key Responsibilities

• Take responsibility for the day-to-day upkeep, maintenance and security of the school site, including locking and securing the premises.
• Maintain accurate records relating to maintenance, compliance, health and safety, and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) checks.
• Carry out minor repairs and general maintenance across the school site.
• Undertake basic DIY tasks, with experience in painting and decorating being advantageous.
• Help ensure the school premises remain clean, safe and fully operational.
• Liaise with contractors and monitor works carried out on site.
• Assist with room setups, school events and general site logistics.
• Support school compliance procedures, including asbestos awareness and site safety monitoring.
• Identify and report maintenance, health and safety or security issues promptly.
• Maintain the school site to a high standard at all times.
• Respond quickly and proactively to any issues that could affect the safety, security or smooth running of the school.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• Previous experience as a School Caretaker, Site Manager, Facilities Assistant, or in a similar maintenance or facilities role.
• Strong practical maintenance and DIY skills.
• A good understanding of health and safety requirements, including fire safety, Legionella awareness and asbestos awareness.
• The ability to work independently and use initiative.
• Excellent organisational skills and strong attention to detail.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• A flexible, proactive and dependable approach to work.
• A current Enhanced DBS.
• Availability to start immediately.
