School IT Technician – Tunbridge Wells

Location: Tunbridge Wells
Type: Full-time, Permanent (52 weeks per year)
Salary: £26,956 per annum

Job Purpose

An exciting opportunity for an IT Technician to join a busy IT team, providing technical support to staff and students and maintaining the organisation’s IT hardware, software and network infrastructure.

The role will support the smooth running of IT systems, helping to ensure effective administration, teaching and learning.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, maintain and troubleshoot computer hardware and software.
• Provide first-line technical support to staff and students.
• Log, manage and allocate IT support requests.
• Ensure IT areas and equipment are prepared for daily use and maintained to a high standard.
• Carry out routine hardware checks, resolve basic faults and escalate more complex issues.
• Maintain and develop network infrastructure.
• Carry out software updates, backups and archiving as required.
• Provide basic IT training and guidance to staff and students.
• Maintain an accurate IT hardware asset register.
• Manage software packages and licensing arrangements.
• Support IT policies relating to safeguarding, internet usage, data protection and information management.
• Assist with CCTV systems, including logging requests and supporting investigations in line with safeguarding and data protection requirements.
• Support the maintenance of CCTV, access control and related systems.
• Arrange and manage ID badges and access permissions.
• Assist with access control system issues and liaise with external support providers when required.
• Support the deployment and maintenance of IP telephony systems.
• Check and maintain stocks of IT equipment.
• Provide IT support for training days, events and examinations, including occasional evenings or weekends when required.

Person Specification

Qualifications

• Level 2 Diploma in IT or equivalent qualification.

Experience

• Experience working in an IT environment.
• Experience supporting software, hardware and networks.

Skills & Abilities

• Strong verbal communication skills with staff and students at all levels.
• Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Understanding of IT-related health and safety requirements.

Knowledge

• Familiarity with a range of IT systems and software packages.
• Basic knowledge of network management.
• Understanding of data protection, information governance and relevant legislation.
• Awareness of safeguarding and appropriate use of IT systems.
