Support Worker – Homeless Accommodation
Location: Barrow-in-Furness
Contract: Full-time | Temporary (initial 2 months with potential to be extended)
Pay: £13.22 per hour + £40 per sleepover
Start: ASAP

Shift Pattern

• 8:00am – 10:00am
• 10:00am – 6:00pm
• 5:30pm – 12:00pm (includes sleepover until 8:00am or 10:30am)
• Sleepovers are paid at an additional £40 per night.
• Flexibility is required to work evenings, weekends, bank holidays, and the Christmas period as part of a 24/7 rota.

About the Role

We are recruiting a compassionate and proactive Support Worker to provide person-centred support to adults experiencing homelessness. Working across supported accommodation and community properties, you will help residents build independence, access services, and maintain a safe and supportive living environment.

This is a varied role involving lone working, sleepover shifts, and working as part of a dedicated team.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide practical and emotional support to residents.
• Complete support plans, risk assessments, and maintain accurate records.
• Liaise with external agencies to help residents access appropriate services.
• Monitor resident wellbeing and promote independence.
• Ensure accommodation is safe, secure, and compliant with health & safety procedures.
• Complete handovers, basic housekeeping duties, and follow safeguarding procedures.

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

• Experience supporting vulnerable adults, ideally within homelessness or supported accommodation.
• Knowledge of safeguarding, mental health, substance misuse, and trauma-informed support.
• Good IT skills and experience maintaining accurate records.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• A calm, resilient, and non-judgemental approach.
• The ability to work independently and confidently in a lone-working environment.

Requirements

• Enhanced DBS
• Flexibility to work the shift pattern above, including sleepovers.
• NVQ Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent) is desirable but not essential.
