School Caretaker / Site Manager

Location: Coventry
Contract: Full-time, Temporary – Long-term Ongoing
Start Date: ASAP
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, split shift
7:30am–11:00am & 3:00pm–6:00pm

Part-time applicants will also be considered for candidates who are available to work either the morning or afternoon shift.

About the Role

We are currently seeking a dependable, proactive and practical School Caretaker / Site Manager to support the smooth day-to-day operation of a busy school in Coventry.

This is a key role within the school, helping to ensure the premises remain safe, secure, clean, welcoming and fully operational for pupils, staff and visitors.

The successful candidate will be practical, organised and able to work independently, while working positively as part of the wider school team. You will take pride in maintaining high standards across the site and responding proactively to any issues that may arise.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the daily upkeep, maintenance and security of the school site.
• Open and lock up the school premises as required.
• Maintain accurate records relating to maintenance, compliance, health & safety and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) checks.
• Carry out minor repairs and general maintenance duties.
• Undertake basic DIY tasks; painting and decorating experience would be advantageous.
• Ensure the school premises remain clean, safe and fully operational.
• Liaise with contractors and oversee works carried out on site.
• Assist with setting up rooms and supporting site logistics for school events and activities.
• Support school compliance procedures, including asbestos awareness and site safety monitoring.
• Identify and report maintenance, health & safety and security issues promptly.
• Help ensure the school site is maintained to a high standard at all times.
• Respond proactively to issues that may affect the safety, security or smooth operation of the school.

Requirements

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• Previous experience as a School Caretaker, Site Manager, Facilities Assistant, or in a similar maintenance/facilities role.
• Strong practical maintenance and DIY skills.
• A good understanding of health & safety requirements, including fire safety, Legionella awareness and asbestos awareness.
• The ability to work independently and use your own initiative.
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• A flexible, reliable and proactive approach.
• A current Enhanced DBS.
• Availability to start immediately.
