School Caretaker – Aylesbury

Teem Recruitment are seeking a reliable and motivated Caretaker to join a welcoming school in the Aylesbury area. This is a full-time, permanent position, though temporary candidates may also be considered.

Job Purpose

To ensure the safe, efficient operation and upkeep of the school site, providing maintenance, repairs, event setups, and support to create a safe and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Main Duties

• Carry out general maintenance and repair work (e.g. painting, plumbing, minor electrical tasks, and general DIY).
• Provide excellent customer service and maintain a professional, approachable presence around the school.
• Undertake daily site checks, ensuring the premises are clean, secure, and safe.
• Open and lock the school buildings, ensuring all areas are secure at the end of the day.
• Support reception when needed, including welcoming visitors, monitoring CCTV, and assisting with deliveries and mail.
• Conduct regular Health & Safety and compliance checks (e.g. fire alarms, equipment, exits).
• Maintain external areas, ensuring grounds are litter-free and presentable.
• Be available for emergency callouts and support school events outside standard hours.
• Work both independently and as part of a team across multiple school sites if required.

Qualifications & Experience

• GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above.
• Qualification (or willingness to work towards) in a trade such as Painting & Decorating, Electrical, Plumbing, or Carpentry.
• SIA Licence (or willingness to obtain).
• Experience in school caretaking, site management, or general building maintenance.
• Knowledge of safe working practices and Health & Safety regulations.
• Good computer literacy, including Microsoft Office.

Other Requirements

• Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain).
• Full, clean UK driving licence (minibus training provided if required).
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.
• Smart, professional appearance.
