How to stay in love with your job!
Sometimes it’s difficult to always stay in love with (and be faithful to) your job.
Here’s a few things you can do before you break-up with your role:
- What do you really dislike about the job? Is it boring, are you undervalued, is the salary too low, or is it dead end? Do you have a bond with your colleagues? Are there more good days than bad days? How do you feel on Sunday night? Or is it just time for a complete new you?
- Can you speak to your Manager? Are there any changes that can be made? Can they help you with any of the issues we have mentioned above?
- Challenge yourself – is there something you would like to achieve? A new area of your role you would like to learn? Now may be the time to take on a new challenge and learn some new skills!
- What do you enjoy about your job? Remind yourself of all the things you enjoy most about your role. Do you get to speak to lots of different people? Do you enjoy the rhythm of regular tasks? Is every day different? Do you get good opportunities? Remind yourself why you do what you do.
- Bond with your colleagues: suggest some team building events or exercises or spend some time together outside of working hours. Work is always more enjoyable when your colleagues are friends as well.
- Progression – do you know what is next in your career? Is there room for progression? Start thinking about your next steps within your role and how you can work to achieve those goals.
- Draw up a list of pros and cons, if the cons outweigh the pros it’s definitely time for a move!
